January-March 2008
Through their links with Black Country Creative Partnerships, George Salter Collegiate Academy in West Bromwich have a strong track-record in ambitious film projects. During the spring term of 2008 a group of pupils conceived and performed in Normals, a half-hour drama shot on HD by the infinitely resourceful Rebecca Hardy of Iceni TV.
While this process was going on, 7 Inch Cinema worked with a smaller group to plan and deliver the project’s culminating event, a premiere screening of the film at the Light House cinema in Wolverhampton. The group sifted through short films, booked the evening’s entertainment, bartered over red carpets, tracked down local journalists and planned out the food and décor. Inspired by our Gangsters mugshots exhibition, they commissioned a series of ‘pop art’ portraits of the entire cast which were displayed prominently on the night. The event itself was a roaring success.
Normals was coordinated by Noel Dunne and funded by Media Box.
