Design and display
OnePlus 13 is available in 3 colors – Midnight Ocean, Arctic Dawn, Midnight Eclipse. I have started with talking about the colors since this is where you will observe a major change. In the midnight ocean color OnePlus is now providing you with a eco leather finish, a texture that you will like. The device sports IP 68 and 69 rating which makes it water resistant and it can be into 1.5 meter of water for upto 30 minutes. The build quality is indeed top notch and you will have no issues using it in any given conditions.
On the back we have a massive camera set-up with the HassleBlad branding. The camera bump while significant isn’t protruding to the point that it annoys you.
You also get OnePlus’ classic features like the alert slider here. It does what it always did – selecting audio profile. It is tactile, and slides in one go. This might be a nit pick but I would hope the device to use this slider for more features than this, making it customisable. Let’s see what happens in the future.
You also get an IR blaster with a dedicated app here. Be it televisions or air conditioners you will be able to control everything by a simple tap.
The display on OnePlus 13 is top notch. The device comes with a 6.8-inch Pro XDR LTPO OLED screen with a max refresh rate of 120Hz. The display comes with an ultra sonic finger print sensor, a first for a OnePlus flagship. The sensor is quicker to register the fingerprints and unlocking the device.
The display supports HDR content across all platforms, so you will have a good time watching your favorite content everywhere. The colors are accurate and the stereo speaker set-up makes it a complete experience.
Ofcourse, the 120Hz refresh rate makes the experience fluid so be it watching content or gaming, you are going to have a good time doing either. The display also comes with an always on feature which is customizable, you can put multiple widgets here or set-up a unique style as per your preference.
Software and performance
OnePlus 13 comes with Android 15 out of the box and runs on Oxygen OS 15 skin. The device is clean with no bloatware which makes the experience smoother. OnePlus has packed in AI features in this device with AI notes and AI recording.
AI notes help with formatting and even generating the notes, ofcourse, backed up with Google Gemini. While the generated notes require touch ups on your end, the feature in a native app is commendable. That being said, it does require internet connection to work.
My favorite feature has also made its way to OnePlus 13, the circle to search. Long press the home button, and circle the subject on the screen for Google results. It works perfectly well here.
Oxygen OS 15 is going strength to strength with its best features like the shelf, which is customisable and helps you increase productivity. Overall, the software experience is top notch, and you will have zero issues here.
There are additions like the pill animation on top, which shows up in audio segments such as Spotify or voice recordings. Yes, you can tap on it, and it even expands. However, that’s where it ends.
The device comes with four years of Android updates and six years of security upgrades. This is decent, but frankly, I believe that every flagship should promise 7+7 support, similar to what we see with Samsung Galaxy S series devices or Pixel devices. It’s unclear whether this is a limitation imposed by Google or if the brands are holding it back.
On the other hand, the majority of people tend to change smartphones every 2–3 years. If you happen to be one of them, this likely won’t be a concern for you.
Moving to performance, OnePlus 13 is a work horse. Powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen Elite. The GeekBench 6 score for the device as per my testing was –
In real-time the device doesn’t falter in any task you throw at it. From everyday computing to aggressive gaming, OnePlus 13 delivers a linear performance. I have used the device for 20 days and it is going strong, with zero lags.
I tested BGMI on the highest setting here, and the device stood its ground and there was no heating either.
The unit with me is the 16GB RAM and 512GB variant which is the higher-end of the ladder. The device manages multiple apps without any hassle, and doesn’t crash even if you open an app after as late as 2 days. This might differ if you were in the middle of a game play especially if it is connected to the internet. This is understandable.
The 6,000 mAh battery just doesn’t die on a moderate day of use giving a screen on time (SOT) of upto 6 hours, which is commendable. On a heavy day of use, the device would give me an SOT of upto 4 hours. With the 100W wired superVOOC charging support, the device charges 0-100% in about 40 minutes, this is in-line with the claims.
It also supports 50W wireless charging, which does take upto an hour to charge the device completely.
Camera
OnePlus 13 comes with a triple camera set-up which has been developed with HasselBlad. The camera set-up features a 50MP primary camera with a 50MP ultrawide sensor and a 50MP periscope telephoto sensor.
The camera set-up will surprise you with both raw results and post processing. The primary camera delivers crisp results with color accuracy. The images are sharp with correct brightness and contrast.
The new action mode also manages to provide correct levels of blurriness in action that doesn’t spoil the moment. The pictures can get a saturated here but not to the point that it differentiates the subject.
The periscope telephoto sensor is the strongest suite though. The lens set-up delivers multiple focal lengths and the results will surprise you thanks to the post processing here. No matter the location you click the subject, the end result is satisfactory. The use case is similar with ultra wide as well, however there is a noticeable color shift when you switch lenses here.
You also get Gemini features here like an option to remove blur and object eraser both of which work perfectly well here.
Video footage is satisfactory with the camera recording 4K footage without any hassle, the files are heavier in this format so I suggest shooting in 1080P.
The 32MP selfie camera is a bit underwhelming when you are coming down from the primary sensor. The colors are under saturated and skin tones can get animated here.
But the camera performance in a nutshell is solid thanks to the balanced output of the primary sensor. This has to be the strongest OnePlus camera yet.
Verdict
OnePlus 13 is a flagship in every aspect of the word. The device manages to deliver in every department with minor inconveniences. If you are looking to buy a flagship device with a reasonable price tag then OnePlus 13 should be your go to device.
