Indus Appstore, PhonePe’s homegrown Android app marketplace, has announced a partnership with Xiaomi India to push a localised digital ecosystem for Indian customers.

Through this partnership, Indus Appstore will be integrated in all new Xiaomi smartphones in India and will replace the GetApps store on existing handsets.

“As India’s digital ecosystem continues to grow, the demand for a locally driven app marketplace has never been more critical. By integrating Indus Appstore with our ecosystem, we aim to offer users a seamless and enriched app discovery experience, while also supporting Indian developers in reaching a wider audience,” said Sudhin Mathur, COO, Xiaomi India.

PhonePe launched its mobile app marketplace in February last year in an attempt to rival the Google Play store and Apple’s App Store.

The Indus Appstore differentiates itself from the Google and Apple platforms by not charging developers any platform fee or commission for in-app payments.

Developers will also be free to integrate any payment gateway of their choice inside their apps. The app store surpassed 100,000 downloads within three days of its launch.
