Instagram has launched a standalone video editing app called Edits. The app is aimed at creators who organise projects, track notes and ideas, shoot and edit videos and get insights on how their videos perform.

The app also includes features that converts static images into moving animation, makes automatic captions, creates subject cutouts and replaces background.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced the app in January, positioning it as a rival to CapCut, a video editing app that had then been taken off along with TikTok. But Mosseri had said that Edits is ideally meant to be used by “creators more than casual video makers.”

CapCut is also owned by TikTok’s parent company, China-based ByteDance and allows users to create and edit videos on their personal devices.

Videos to be edited on the app can be as long as 10 minutes and can be even exported to platforms other than Facebook and Instagram without any watermarks.

Edits is available now for free for both Android and iOS users.
