Nvidia’s Jensen Huang says AI ‘fundamental like electricity’, praises Chinese models as ‘catalyst for global progress’

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang praised Chinese developed artificial intelligence models such as DeepSeek as “world-class” and asserted that AI is now “fundamental like electricity”, Reuters reported

Speaking at the third China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) in Beijing today, on July 16, Huang added that China’s open-source AI is a “catalyst for global progress”, as per an AFP report.

“AI is transforming every industry, from scientific research and healthcare to energy, transportation and logistics,” Huang stated.

“AI powers Chinese platforms like Tencent… Models developed in China like DeepSeek, Alibaba and Tencent are world-class,” he said, adding that AI today “is fundamental infrastructure, like electricity”.

Huang praised China’s “super-fast” innovation, powered by its “researchers, developers and entrepreneurs”.

Jensen Huang says Nvidia ‘doing our best’ to serve Chinese market

AFP further reported that after meeting Beijing officials, Huang said Nvidia was “doing our best” to serve China’s vast market for semiconductors.

Speaking to reporters at the expo, he said that officials told him the country was “open and stable”, adding, “We spoke about… China welcoming foreign companies to invest here and build businesses here, and that China is open and stable. They want to know that Nvidia continues to invest here, that we are still doing our best to serve the market here.”

Huang also said Nvidia is keen to serve the massive Chinese market for microchips needed in everything from mobile phones to electric vehicles.

On July 15, Nvidia announced that it will resume sales of its H20 AI chips to China. This came after the Trump administration vowed to remove licensing restrictions that had halted exports.

The company’s advanced chips sales were earlier restricted over fears that Beijing could use them to enhance military capabilities.
