Apple announces a new launch event on February 19. Here’s what to expect

Apple CEO Tim Cook took to X for announcing the latest launch event for the Cupertino giant. The event happening on February 19 is expected to introduce the world to the latest iPhone SE. The much awaited update on the most affordable iPhone can be paired with some more announcements. If the rumors are to be believed Apple might introduce the new MacBook Air Line-up with M4 updates along with some announcements for iPad Air.

What to expect from iPhone SE 4

The iPhone SE, known for its classic design with a 4.7-inch display and physical Home button, is expected to undergo a major redesign. Leaks suggest the new model will feature a larger screen, remove the Home button, and introduce Face ID in place of Touch ID, bringing its design in line with recent iPhones. Reports indicate it will be powered by Apple’s A18 chip, potentially enabling Apple Intelligence, a suite of AI-driven features. There is also speculation that it could debut Apple’s first in-house cellular modem, reducing reliance on Qualcomm. Additionally, the new iPhone SE is rumored to adopt a USB-C port, replacing the traditional Lightning connector, and may include an Action button, currently found on the iPhone 15 Pro models and later. Some sources suggest Apple might drop the iPhone SE branding altogether, possibly rebranding it as the iPhone 16E to align with the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

MacBook Air Updates

In addition to the iPhone SE, Apple may also introduce updated versions of the MacBook Air and iPad Air. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple’s stock of these devices is running low, suggesting that refreshed models could be on the way. If announced, the new MacBook Air is expected to feature the M4 chip, delivering improved performance and efficiency, while the iPad Air may receive an upgrade to the M3 chip. Apple is also developing a refreshed entry-level iPad, which could be powered by either the A16 Bionic or A17 Pro chip. However, no major design changes are anticipated for these devices.

Apple smart home hub?

Another interesting rumor points to a potential preview of an Apple smart home hub, designed to rival Amazon’s Echo Show and Google’s Nest Hub. Although its launch isn’t expected until late 2025, Apple has a tradition of showcasing major products well ahead of their release. Like we saw with the Vision Pro tease in 2023. Reports indicate that this device may resemble a HomePod outfitted with a screen, featuring either a 6-inch or 7-inch display, an A18 chip, and integrated support for Apple Intelligence. It is anticipated to serve as a central control unit for smart home devices, enable FaceTime calls, and perform various everyday tasks. Gurman has even described it as Apple’s most significant release of the year, marking a pivotal move in the company’s broader smart home strategy.
