Since September 2024, she stuck to the rule—no full charges, no “just this once” exceptions. After 12 months, her iPhone showed a maximum battery capacity of 94 percent with 299 charge cycles.
Interestingly, she revealed that the outcome was almost identical to her previous test with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, which also ended the year at 94 percent. “I tried hard to keep my battery between 20 and 80 percent,” she wrote, adding that while the habit worked in theory, it wasn’t always practical in daily life.
The Hidden Inconvenience of Charging Discipline
Limiting the phone to 80 percent sounded easy at home, but out in the real world it came with challenges. Using the camera, GPS, or MagSafe battery packs often made her phone heat up and drained power faster than she expected. “It was inconvenient. Sometimes 80 percent just wasn’t enough,” she admitted.
Surprise calibrations offered rare moments of relief when the iPhone charged fully on its own. But overall, she found the strict charging lifestyle “not worth the effort.”
Was It Really Worth It?
The woman concluded that despite the discipline, her iPhone’s battery health didn’t show any dramatic advantage compared to normal charging patterns. Heat from wireless charging and everyday power use seemed to play as much of a role as charging limits. Still curious, she has already upgraded to the iPhone 17 Pro Max and started a new year-long trial, this time to see whether its bigger battery and aluminum design will make a difference.
