Snapchat just landed on Apple Watch. Here is what you can do with it

Snapchat is branching out from just phones and browsers and is now on the Apple Watch. But hold up you won’t be taking selfies or scrolling through Stories anytime soon. It’s not the full Snapchat experience, but a slimmed-down version focused mainly on messaging. Basically, it’s a handy way to stay connected without digging your phone out every time.

Instead of trying to pack the full Snapchat experience into the Apple Watch, the app focuses purely on messaging. You can see incoming messages right on the Watch — something iPhone notifications already did but now, you can actually reply to chats directly from your wrist.

Snapchat arrives on Apple Watch: Here’s what it can do

No dog filters yet, but you can send texts right from your wrist. Replies can be typed on the tiny keyboard, drawn out letter by letter, or sent using voice-to-text. It might not seem like much, but for anyone who needs to stay connected quickly and discreetly during a meeting or while on the go it’s a pretty handy option.

Snapchat’s launch on the Apple Watch comes at an interesting time, especially as many big tech players have been stepping back from the platform. In recent years, apps like Instagram, Slack, Lyft, Uber, Trello, Evernote, and Amazon have all pulled their Apple Watch versions, blaming low usage or shifting priorities.

Snapchat’s move bucks that trend, injecting new life into what smartwatches can do. While it doesn’t bring filters or camera features, it shows that wearables still have a real role to play in how we stay connected every day.
